Sick and Tired of Constant Back Pain and Discomfort?
The Bowen technique is known to relieve back pain, back problems, muscle pain, fatigue, nerve imbalances or sports injuries and more.
What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique is a holistic bodywork therapy that aims to restore balance and promote healing within the body. It was developed in the 1950s by Tom Bowen, an Australian bodywork therapist. The technique involves gentle, rolling movements over specific points on the body, usually performed using the therapist’s fingers and thumbs. These movements are designed to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms and promote self-regulation.
It can significantly improve your health and can be life changing. Due to its high rate of success, more members of the medical profession continue to be amazed at its effectiveness.
The Bowen Technique is based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself. By applying subtle and precise movements on key points, the therapist aims to release tension, reset the body’s natural alignment, and encourage the body’s self-healing processes. The technique is non-invasive and does not involve forceful manipulation or adjustment of the joints.
Where can I get treated with the Bowen Technique?
I have been a Bowen Therapist since 1999 additionally in the past 8 years I also use Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (Registered BACP and GHR) which complements the mind and body. I operate from Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Rochester, Kent, Ealing and West London.
I’m very enthusiastic about using the Bowen Technique on clients (humans and animals). It’s extremely powerful; it is not a “cure all” and needs to be done in conjunction with whatever other treatment is appropriate to address the cause of the symptoms presented. I offer a broad range of Bowen moves from different ‘courses’ ‘educators’ so you will have a big set of powerful yet simple techniques to help relieve pains, disease and discomforts.
This Therapy ‘tool’ provides staggering results from 4-5 simple Bowen moves.
How is the Bowen Technique Performed?
The therapy typically takes place with the client fully clothed and lying on a treatment table. The therapist performs a series of gentle moves on specific areas of the body, leaving pauses between each set of moves to allow the body to respond and integrate the changes. These pauses are important as they give the body time to process and initiate the healing response.
My Experience of the Bowen Technique
When I received a Bowen treatment for a knee injury I had 2 sessions on my knee, and I was done free from Pain. I believe that the majority of the outcomes I experience with patients are mostly a result of the practitioner and the patient’s focused attention on their psychological state of mind, with sole intention on healing the body and symptoms; along with the techniques used.
The Bowen Technique is a wonderful gentle and relaxing way to treat. My typical client may present a chronic problem they have had for years or maybe only seeing me for what I call a “tweak”, “tune up and service” or preventative maintenance treatment. Anything goes!
I have treated conditions such as:
- Back and neck pain, whiplash
- Headaches, migraines, hay fever, sinusitis
- Hip, pelvic instability, knee and ankle problems
- Digestive problems – irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s Disease
- Respiratory Conditions – Lungs, heart, asthma, chest infections and blood pressure
- Sciatica – nerve damage
- Sports Injuries – muscle, ligament, tendon damage
- Chronic fatigue, M.E, depression
- Frozen shoulder
- Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), sprains
- Reproductive conditions, menstrual pain, pregnancy discomfort and labour
Is the Bowen Technique Painful?
The Bowen Technique is generally considered to be a gentle treatment however at times it can be painful (momentarily) when a Bowen move is made over an active trigger point for instance.
Many people have been brainwashed into believing the concept of “no pain, no gain”, or if it’s not painful or hurting it is too soft to be doing any good; I like to express the facts about Bowen Therapy it is up to practitioners intuition to decide with what pressure the application of a Bowen move should be done, leaving it open to change the pressure of the move for each person you treat.
Practitioners who apply the Bowen move with an almost feather like pressure get the same results as the practitioner who is heavier handed.
Client Experiences of the Bowen Technique
Over the years clients have admitted that when they were having their first Bowen treatment from me, that they thought “this is a waste of time and money”. Their attitude quickly changed when they got up from the treatment table and could feel and measure considerable improvement, and over the next few days continued to improve.
Many of my clients have commented about how relaxing and enjoyable the treatment is compared to other manual therapies that they have experienced. My experience, most people who experience Bowen Therapy choose to have Bowen as their treatment of choice in the future.
Who can the Bowen Technique be used on?
The Bowen Technique can be practiced safely on the newborn through to the elderly and very successfully on animals as well. It is now available worldwide is more of a holistic approach to healing the body alongside Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Acupuncture and Homeopathy.
